105-year-old woman renews driver?s license

105-year-old Edythe Kirchmaier recently renewed her California drivers license (Facebook)There apparently isn?t much that can slow down Edythe Kirchmaier. The 105-year-old California resident made headlines on Monday when she passed her driving test ? continuing 86 years without a blemish on her driving record.

"I just couldn't imagine myself without a car," Kirchmaier told FoxNews.com. "It just didn't feel very good."

And that?s far from the only bit of notoriety to crop up recently in Kirchmaier?s life. Facebook has declared her its most senior user, last week she appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show to mark her birthday, and she has been a volunteer with the Direct Relief International (DRI) organization for 40 years.

Kirchmaier reportedly drives herself to DRI each week, where she leads a team of volunteers.

"I think I?m a pretty good driver," Kirchmaier told Fox. "I feel safe about getting my driver's license renewed because I?ve never had an accident."

Primary Home refinanced October, Buying new home now. Cant get ...

"underwriter said I committed fraud because I just refinanced a home and said it was my primary"? The underwriter is correct.? It wasn't your primary residence because you didn't live there, so you committed fraud by signing documents in October saying that it was.??

Anytime use changes, you need to notify the insurance company and the refinance company immediately.?

Perhaps you could ask if you could refinance the rental home as an investment home now.? I don't know if it will help, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Illinois Gov. signs bill into law allowing driver's licenses for ...

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill into law today that grants hundreds of thousands of?undocumented?immigrants the right to drive. The new law makes Illinois the fourth state to allow driver?s licenses or permits for undocumented immigrants and comes ahead of President Obama?s ?expected announcement on a plan for?comprehensive immigration reform expected on Tuesday.

Quinn and the?bipartisan supporters of the legislation say the measure will improve traffic safety in the state. ?This common sense law will help everybody, regardless of their background, learn the rules of the road, pass a driving test and get insurance,??Governor Quinn said. Despite the stalemate on immigration reform in Washington D.C., Illinois is moving forward. As a result, our roads will be safer, we will create more access to job opportunities and our economic growth will be strengthened.?

For Illinois residents such as Eugenia Flores, a 41-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, the new law could provide protection from criminal prosecution.?Currently, if undocumented immigrants decide to get behind the wheel, a routine traffic stop could lead to fingerprinting and possible?deportation.

?I?m a good driver,? says Flores. ?But my kids get scared when the police stop me. They don?t want me to drive anymore. But I tell them I have to because who will take them to school??

Proponents of the controversial?law, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, count about 250,000 undocumented immigrants in the state who drive without licenses. These untrained and untested drivers lead to crashes and higher insurance costs for other motorists, with unlicensed immigrant drivers accounting for around $64 million in damage claims every year, according to the Illinois Highway Safety Coalition.

Unlicensed drivers will continue to drive with or without a license says Lawrence Benito, president of one of the chief?lobbying groups for the bill, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. ?They have to continue to bring their kids to school or go to church or drive to work,? he says.

The issue has divided lawmakers in Washington, Utah and New Mexico, the only three states that provide identification for undocumented immigrants who wish to drive. The debate has picked up momentum ahead?of federal legislation?that will soon require state driver?s licenses to double as national identification.?Opponents of the measure, including?Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico,?cite concerns that these types of licenses?will lead to fraud.

In November 2011, two road test instructors?for the Ilinois Secretary of State were indicted for accepting money in exchange for fake driver?s licenses as part of a crime ring.

Meanwhile, Illinois Representative Dwight Kay argues that the law will lead to an influx of undocumented immigrants to the state.

?Granting individuals who came to our country illegally and giving them a benefit sends the wrong message,? Kay said in a statement after the Illinois House passed the legislation. ?A driver?s license is a privilege ? not a right, giving illegals the privilege to drive in our state legally when they broke our laws to come here is bad public policy. We must follow our Constitution and not pass laws based on whichever way the wind blows.?

Applicants for the license must provide a form of identification such as a passport, as well as proof of Illinois residency. ?License holders won?t be able to purchase firearms, fly on commercial planes or vote -?the card can only be used for driving. But, for Eugenia Flores, that privilege is more than enough.

?I don?t want to spend my life just inside my house,??says Flores. ?When the police stop you, you feel like a criminal. Now, I can feel free.?

North York Neck Pain Alleviated Naturally With Acupuncture Needles

North York acupuncture therapy could be a way of helping a body to rebalance itself. The process involves the manipulation of thin needles that are inserted into specific points in the body. These points correspond to acupuncture points identified through traditional Chinese medicine.

The reason for these specific locations is to help remedy any imbalances in the body. By using these super fine needles the acupuncturist is able to facilitate the way the energy flows through the body. This belief hinges on the the thought that energy can somehow be prevented from flowing freely around the body.

This truly is an ancient process, and its exact development isn?t really known. One explanation is that soldiers in being wounded by sharp pointed instruments in battle, and who went on to recover, found various ailments were better than before. It?s thought the original needles could?ve consisted of bone and stone, before being replaced with metal needles.

There really is not a lot of evidence as to how this method may work. There is probably even less known about why it may work, but some people do find it helpful. The exact points for the needles insertion are decided by the acupuncturist. They carefully question the person beforehand, and may also just observe while others will use a more hands on approach to feel for tender or sore spots.

They are quite likely to take a person?s pulse, and also to look at the tongue. It is something that is frequently based on intuition, philosophy and experience. The needles used tend to be made out of stainless steel and are extremely thin. Most are disposable, although some are reused after being thoroughly sterilized.

Shorter needles are used around the face and neck. Longer needles can be used in other ares. They are so skillfully inserted by North York acupuncture pros that most people will not be aware they are going in.

Acupuncture relieves neck and back pain naturally. You can get more information about a North York acupuncture professional at http://www.bayviewwellness.ca/ now.

Family displaced as fire damages North Wales home - North Penn ...

Three residents were displaced and a home was heavily damaged after a blaze broke out around 2 p.m. Friday on the 300 block of Washington Avenue in North Wales.

?The neighbors heard something popping, and ran out and saw the side of the house on fire. We don?t know, we?re still investigating if that popping was the cause or one of the effects of the fire,? said Chris Park, Chief of the North Penn Fire Company.

That company and several others battled the fire for roughly an hour before bringing it under control, but not before much of the home?s second floor and first-floor roof were charred by the fire.

The cause is still under investigation, but PECO crews were on scene and cut utility lines to the house as firefighters took turns entering the house and dousing flames visible on the wooden eaves of the house.

Park said all three residents were unhurt and staying with friends and family, but declined to identify the victims further. No information was available Friday afternoon about any pets that may have lived in the house.

Montgomery County property records identify the property owners as Lambert and Claire Liebel, and family members at the scene said Claire, her son and daughter-in-law were inside and escaped the fire.

?There?s heavy exterior damage from fire, smoke and the water. We?re going to be out here for at least several more hours, just making sure everything?s completely out,? Park said.

Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale deployed an inflatable heated tent at the scene for emergency responders to stay warm, and Park said as of 4 p.m. Friday, firefighters were using it to warm up but none had been hurt while fighting the fire.

Jayne Blackledge, Director of the nearby North Wales Area Library, said that facility had its doors open for victims and emergency responders to come inside and warm up, and several had done so as snow fell on the fire scene.

?We have a microwave, we have restrooms, it?s a good place to come in and warm up. That?s what libraries are for,? she said.

Cold snap causing 'travel nightmares' for Northeast

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Frozen cash machines and canceled classes marked another day of a cold snap gripping large swaths of the United States on Friday, with a winter storm threatening the Northeast's evening commute.

A rapidly moving storm glazed the Midwest and South and headed east, threatening to bring snow and ice to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast for the evening rush hour, forecasters said.

"It's the type of conditions that cause extreme travel nightmares because things just get so slippery," said meteorologist Evan Myers on Accuweather.com.

Because the storm is dumping ice and no more than an inch of snow, it was difficult for plows to clear the roadways, he said.

"It's so cold out that all the anti-skids and things that they use on a highway (are) really not very effective," the meteorologist said.

In upstate New York, authorities considered charging a father who left his 1-year-old son strapped in a car seat for 8 hours while he went to work on Thursday, when temperatures never got above 15 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 9 Celsius).

He had forgotten to drop the child at day care and became aware of the error when his wife called to ask about the child, said Lieutenant Robert Winn of the Colonie Police Department.

"Luckily the car was parked in a spot that received sunlight through the day," said Winn, noting the child was examined at a local hospital and released.

After a week of frigid temperatures in New York City, chilled residents seeking cash for a warming cup of hot cocoa were frustrated to find their assets frozen as some automated teller machines stopped working in the cold.

In Indiana, ice-slickened roadways were blamed for more than 50 crashes, and sections of Interstates 69 and 64 were shut because of accidents, Indiana State Police said.

Treacherous travel conditions in Tennessee, caused by freezing rain, caused pileups on roads and led to canceled flights at Nashville airport. Classes at most schools in the middle of the state were closed or delayed.

In North Carolina, public schools announced early closures in anticipation of worsening weather conditions.

Forecasters said the cold would continue on Saturday and temperatures would start creeping up on Sunday.

Video: Union membership on a decline

>> in the u.s. is on the decline and that could spell trouble for the democratic party . michigan, the latest state to implement right to work laws, that make it more difficult to unionize lost 42,000 union members just last year. total union membership nationwide fell by 400,000 workers last year to 14.3 million, the lowest rate of union membership since the '30s. joining me is chief economist to the afl-cio. thank you for joining us.

>> thank you for having me.

>> you're in "the new york times" article that discusses the workforce and unions and one of the individuals quoted, a professor at clark university and he says it's a time for unions to stop being clever about excuses for why membership is declining and it is time to figure out how to devise appeals to the workers out there. why do you believe these union numbers are dropping so significantly?

>> well, remember, the key to being in the survey is to have a job. and we have a very weak labor market . the big part of that drop came in the public sector and this is the weakest part of the labor market during the recovery. we're losing teachers. this is important not to the union members only but to the nation as a whole because it means that as we have gone through this recovery, we have not been able to make the proper investment to make sure that the kids are educated for the future. and the private sector drop comes in construction and again we know that need to be building the infrastructure to make america successful for the future and the numbers speak a lot about the weakness in the labor market and especially the weakness in the public sector where we know that we need teachers, we know that we need policemen and we need firefighters.

>> correct. it's interesting that you point to the fact that people are out of work and that may be part of the reason you're seeing declining numbers but the professor of the article you're in se should be looking to unions but they're not. so given your point about so many people being out of work, the theory is that they should be looking to unions at a time of insecurity, especially and a lot of places like michigan, for example, and wisconsin, where we know unions believe they've been under attack.

>> unions have been under attack and that's part of the difficulty in getting union membership up. but unions have been very successful reaching out. one of the key number that is showed up in the vort the continued success of the labor movement and organizing latinos . membership among latinos is up. their union density continuing to climb. the diversity shows in the numbers, as well. those are the highest density of membership most likely members of unions are african-americans so when you look at where the union membership is growing, asian americans , african-americans, latinos , the union movement is getting those new workers, the people joining the labor force . and when you look at how unevenness of the recession has affected different states, you see that the union movement is very successful in states right to work states. union membership was up in texas and oklahoma and georgia and north carolina , tennessee. so, it's not -- these numbers are national and patterns of job growth and patterns of job construction taking place and peeling behind the numbers you see the success of the labor movement where people did not expect.

>> it's an interesting article and will continue to follow the numbers and see what this means and impact of upcoming elections. thank you very much, bill.

Time for Belichick to move on?

After another postseason fall, perhaps
Pats coach should try a new franchise

Image: Bill BelichickGetty Images

Bill Belichick earned three Super Bowl rings while serving as head coach of the New England Patriots, but none since the Spygate scandal broke in September 2007.

Trash Talk

By Michael Ventre

NBCSports.com contributor

updated 2:21 p.m. ET Jan. 21, 2013

Michael Ventre

Maybe Bill Belichick should become the next Andy Reid.

You know, an excellent NFL head coach who has outlived his usefulness with the same franchise and understands that it?s time to move on.

Belichick earned three Super Bowl rings while serving as head coach of the New England Patriots, but none since the Spygate scandal broke in September 2007. Maybe it?s coincidence or bad luck that Belichick hasn?t won another world championship since then. Maybe it isn?t.

It seems that year in and year out since that brouhaha erupted, Belichick?s Patriots have disappointed. Indeed, he lost two close Super Bowl games to the New York Giants after the 2007 and 2011 seasons. Most coaches would give their entire bank accounts for those opportunities.

But Belichick isn?t most coaches. Remember, he?s a genius. You can?t get through a head coaching debate without the name Belichick being tossed out as the Albert Einstein of the gridiron.

He wasn?t the best coach in the NFL this year. He wasn?t last year. In fact, he hasn?t been since the 2004 season, although I give Belichick major props for the minor miracle of turning Matt Cassel into an NFL quarterback for the 2008 season in New England when Tom Brady was injured.

No one really doubts that Reid can coach. That was illustrated by how quickly the Kansas City Chiefs pounced on him as their choice for a new head coach. In the same way, no one really doubts Belichick can coach.

Yet there is the nagging sense that, for all his ballyhoo and reputation, he isn?t getting it done. Obviously he did a much better job this season with the Patriots than Reid did with the Eagles. But disappointment is all relative. The way the Patriots were outclassed Sunday by the Baltimore Ravens was a little surprising.

Plus, Belichick snubbed CBS after that game, reminding us what a classy guy he is. It might be time for him to hit the refresh button on his career, because he doesn?t seem to be handling failure well.

Most teams would open the bank vault and do anything it takes to get a coach like Belichick. The Patriots aren?t most teams, however. They?ve had him. Now it might be time to have someone else.

Let the hype begin!
From now until the Super Bowl, you are going to be bombarded with hype. Wear a helmet and keep low.

But likely you will not be given a true look at San Francisco and Baltimore leading up to the clash between the 49ers and the Ravens. Here are some important points to remember about the two cities:

San Francisco gave us ?Dirty Harry.? Baltimore gave us "Diner."

San Francisco provided the backdrop for ?The Streets of San Francisco.? Baltimore provided the backdrop for ?The Wire.?

Don?t visit San Francisco without sampling sourdough bread. Don?t visit Baltimore without trying the blue crabs.

The most reviled individual in Baltimore is the late Art Modell. The most reviled individual in San Francisco is Tommy Lasorda.

Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco. Earl Weaver left no umpire alone in Baltimore.

Herb Caen captured the essence of San Francisco. H.L. Mencken captured the essence of Baltimore.

San Francisco has a giant stone edifice with a nefarious reputation called Alcatraz where no activity takes place. The closest thing Baltimore has to that is the United States Capitol in nearby Washington.

San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge. Baltimore has the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The median home price in Baltimore is about $265,000. The median home price in San Francisco is about $659,000.

A 49er is a participant in the California Gold Rush of 1849. A Raven is an ominous black bird and title character of Edgar Allan Poe?s ?The Raven.?

Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco. Nancy Pelosi was born in Baltimore.

San Francisco?s professional football team has a head coach with the last name Harbaugh. So does Baltimore.

Tour de Public Relations
Most people have no awareness about cycling other than the Tour de France. I?m one of them. I?m sure there?s a Tour de This, a Tour de That, maybe even a Tour de The Other. But clearly, the Tour de France is the Grand Papa of all Cycling Events.

And the 2013 version is about five months away.

So this would be an ideal time, in the wake of the Oprah interviews conducted with lying pin cushion Lance Armstrong, for the Tour de France to begin a public-relations campaign declaring that this year?s race will be the cleanest ever.

Instead, silence.

The Tour de France is missing an opportunity. Right now, after listening to Armstrong, and considering all the other dopers who have ruined the sport, the Tour de France and the International Cycling Union (UCI) should have unleashed a massive effort to get the word out that testing will be more accurate and more rigorous than ever. They should start now, and continue the PR onslaught right up to, and then through, the race.

Last week the International Cycling Union did announce the establishment of an anti-doping helpline so that professional riders could ask questions or blow the whistle on others anonymously. That?s a good step.

But the Tour de France, once one of the most beautiful sights in sports, is uglier now because of Armstrong and others. And that needs to be corrected. Otherwise the cheaters will still control the sport, even when they?re long gone.

Fading memories
Theoretically, memories are among the most precious assets of a sports franchise ? except when it moves. Then those memories fade, and eventually disappear.

Take the Oklahoma City Thunder, for instance. That team moved to OKC from Seattle for the 2008-2009 season. The Seattle SuperSonics had been established in 1967. They won an NBA championship in 1979. Among their illustrious alumni are Lenny Wilkens, Fred Brown, Slick Watts, Gus Williams, Dennis Johnson, Jack Sikma, Paul Silas, Tom Chambers, Xavier McDaniel, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton and, yes, Kevin Durant, for his rookie season of 2007-08.

Yet you?ll rarely hear anyone around the Thunder ? or the NBA, for that matter ? evoke fond memories of those great SuperSonics of yesteryear, or stirring moments in the team?s history. When a team re-brands itself, it shoves all traces of the past out of the picture. And that?s a little sad.

The Maloof brothers, who own the Sacramento Kings, are about to finalize a deal to move the team to Seattle, to become a new incarnation of the SuperSonics. This is a unique situation, because re-establishing the brand in Seattle means restoring the memories, much like the Cleveland Browns did when the original club moved to Baltimore, and a new Browns was later established in Cleveland.

Of course, that?s little consolation to the folks in Sacramento ? who got the franchise from Kansas City in 1985 ? because it?s unlikely another NBA team will relocate to California?s state capital to replace the Kings. Sacramento fans will have only the memories of that brief period in the late '90s-early 2000s when the Kings had Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Mike Bibby, Hedo Turkoglu, Peja Stojakovic, Doug Christie and head coach Rick Adelman, and they sniffed at the championship.

Kansas City doesn?t hold annual candlelight vigils for its departed Kings. Sacramento won?t, either. Because a team?s history is only as vivid as a team?s present lets it be.

A game of pepper
The Manti Te?o imaginary girlfriend story will not end when all the facts are out, but rather when all the jokes have been exhausted. ...

Tim Duncan got another night off by the Spurs in a recent game against Atlanta. He?s the closest thing professional sports has to a semi-retired person. ?

I couldn?t tell if that was Jim Harbaugh being upset over a call on Sunday, or if that was just his tribute to the late Earl Weaver. ?

Harbaugh, Harbaugh, Harbaugh. I haven?t heard one last name mentioned this often since Gillooly.

S. Africa: Nigerian suspect in 2010 bombing guilty

JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? A prosecutor in South Africa says a Nigerian terror suspect accused of bombings in Nigeria has been found guilty on all 13 counts that he faced.

Shaun Abrahams said the South African court on Monday ruled that Henry Okah was guilty on terror charges related to bombings in October 2010 that killed at least 12 people in Nigeria's capital during a celebration to mark 50 years of independence.

Okah will be sentenced later this month but is likely to be sentenced to life in prison.

Abrahams said the verdict shows that South Africa will not become a safe haven for international terrorists.

Climate change alters ecosystems from Walden Pond to 'The Shack'

Using historical data collected by famous naturalists and authors Henry David Thoreau and Aldo Leopold, scientists have linked early flower blooms to warm springs. This is the first time researchers have analyzed patterns in these two sets of data together. ?

Walden Pond has seen warmer temperatures and earlier spring flowerings since Henry David Thoreau first stayed there in 1852.

The warmest springs on record caused flowers to bloom at their earliest dates in decades at two historic sites, according to new research.

The findings, published online today (Jan. 16) in the journal PLoS ONE, show just how much climate change has altered ecosystems throughout the temperate areas of the United States. The study used 161-year-old data on flowering times from Henry David Thoreau's notebooks, as well as nearly 80-year-old data from the famous naturalist Aldo Leopold.

Scientists had previously described the Thoreau records but they hadn't combined the two naturalists' findings until now.

"Record warm temperatures (in 2010 and 2012) have resulted in record early flowering times," said study researcher Elizabeth Ellwood of Boston University. [8 Ways Global Warming Is Already Changing the World]

Famous naturalists

Henry David Thoreau was one of the most iconic figures of the 19th century. The famous naturalist and poet wrote the book "Walden" about his years living at idyllic Walden Pond in Concord, Mass. Starting in 1852 and at different points throughout his life, he also created the first "spreadsheets of flowering dates" for many well-known?flowers, including the wild columbine, the pink-lady slipper orchid and the marsh marigold, Ellwood said.

Similarly, the naturalist Leopold took detailed records of first flowering times at a site called "The Shack" in?wilderness near the Wisconsin River, starting in 1935.

"It's the iconic equivalent to Walden Pond for Wisconsinites," Ellwood told LiveScience.

While scholars knew of these flowering observations, many were scattered in different libraries and archives, and no one had systematically analyzed their patterns, she said.

Hotter springs, earlier blooms

To do so, Ellwood and her colleagues gathered all of?Thoreau's flowering records?from several archives. They then compared flowering dates with spring temperatures for 32 different flowering plants.

About 800 sign up for Fla. 'python challenge' hunt

(AP) ? Nearly 800 people have signed up to hunt Burmese pythons on public lands in Florida.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is holding a month-long "Python Challenge." Officials are offering cash prizes to whoever brings in the longest python and whoever bags the most pythons.

The hunt starts at 1 p.m. Saturday and ends at midnight Feb. 10.

The Burmese python is an invasive species that experts say is decimating native wildlife in the Florida Everglades. Florida currently prohibits possession or sale of the pythons for use as pets. Federal law bans the importing and selling the species.

For the first time, the public is joining licensed hunters in the search for the snakes. Officials hope the competition will help rid the Everglades of the invaders.

Editor's Letter: Winding Down

In each issue of Distro, editor-in-chief Tim Stevens publishes a wrap-up of the week in news.

Editor's Letter Winding Down

And just like that, we're through. It feels like just yesterday I was sitting down to write the introduction to a CES column for our first special issue of Distro from the show floor, and now, well, it's over. The show was different this year, but not necessarily in the way we expected. While the show felt smaller in a lot of ways, in many others it was even bigger.

Some big companies like Microsoft and RIM opted to have minimal or no presence on the show floor, so we thought that would shrink the overall content at CES. Oh no, dear readers, if anything it had quite the opposite effect. Those big voids that were created were filled by dozens of smaller companies, crowd-funded and fresh-thinking, lobbing plenty of innovative products our way. Some were crap, but lots and lots were awesome and mind-blowing in their simplicity and genius.

FDA: Prescription Mix-Ups A Problem For Pets, Too ? CBS Chicago

Prescription medication (CBS)

Prescription medication (CBS)

(CBS) ? The FDA has issued a warning for pet owners, after investigators found a rising number of errors with prescription medication for pets.

CBS 2?s Mary Kay Kleist has tips on how to keep your pet safe.

All Sarah Schuck has left of her beloved dog Rafter is a collar, some pictures, and fond memories.

?It was really hard, and it was a tough realization,? Schuck said.

Because Rafter?s untimely death shouldn?t have happened.

The drug store that filled Rafter?s prescription made an error. The bottle label said to give Rafter 2 ? teaspoons, instead of the much smaller dosage her vet called into the pharmacy: 2.25 cc.

The overdose, combined with Rafter?s health problems, was too much. Schuck had him put to sleep.

The FDA said it?s easy for errors to be made when filling a prescription for your pet. FDA investigators discovered errors stemming from simple issues such as: lookalike packaging, drugs with similar names, and simple penmanship errors.

?I think that mistakes are made all the time,? said Dr. Jon Jorgensen, a veterinarian with Village Veterinary Practice. ?Some animals are very specific as to what they can take. A pharmacist may substitute something, not knowing that that?s gonna be a problem for that particular patient.?

Jorgensen said the drug dosage mix-up for Rafter could also easily happen to other pets.

He explained the dosage on the label of Rafter?s medication was five times larger than the actual dosage the doctor called for.

?It?d be like, instead of taking instead of 2 Tylenol, taking 10 Tylenol,? Jorgensen said.

He said he takes prescription precautions at his practice. All medications and dosages are typed into a computer.

Pharmacy insiders said if pet owners shop around to find the lowest cost on pet meds, they need to do their research.

?Their primary concern should always be whether or not that pharmacist is knowledgeable in the area of veterinary medications. Price should be a secondary consideration,? said Carmen Catizone of the National Association Boards of Pharmacy.

To avoid a pet prescription mix-up, the FDA advised pet owners to verify the name and dosage of their animal?s drug with their vet.

Schuck said she hopes Rafter?s legacy lives on to help other pet owners avoid medication mistakes.

?Don?t be afraid to ask questions,? she said.

FDA investigators also cited two other common reasons for pet medication errors: pet owners misinterpreting labels, and accidentally giving pets human drugs.

Vets are concerned about human pharmacists filling pet prescriptions, because their training is so different.

'Mary Poppins' to close on Broadway in the spring

(AP) ? "Mary Poppins" is closing up its big umbrella on Broadway.

An official close to the show's producers said Monday that the 6-year-old musical will end performances in March at the New Amsterdam Theatre and eventually be replaced by a musical adapted from the film "Aladdin."

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak before the official announcement. The New York Post first reported the news, citing an anonymous source. A Disney representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"Mary Poppins," co-produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, is based both on the children's books by P.L. Travers and the 1964 movie starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. It tells the story of the world's most practically perfect nanny in Edwardian London.

With a big cast, lavish sets and stunts that include Mary flying with her umbrella and Bert the chimney sweep tap dancing upside-down, the show was a hit after opening in 2006, two years after debuting in London.

The show is part of Disney Theatrical Productions' five big Broadway hits from seven attempts since 1994 ? a profitable list that includes "The Lion King" and the more recent "Newsies." That's way above the 3-in-10 average recoupment of most Broadway shows. "Mary Poppins" routinely grosses over $1 million every week despite the presence of touring versions.

When it closes, it will have been performed 2,619 times and have been seen by more than 4 million people. It recouped its initial Broadway investment within a year, and has gone on to be among the top 10 grossing shows for the past six years and top five for attendance. It will rank as the 22nd longest-running show in Broadway history.

Its soon-to-be vacant home at the New Amsterdam Theatre will be taken by the musical "Aladdin," which has melodies by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice ? the same team who created the animated film version that starred Robin Williams. The musical, with a book by Chad Beguelin, had its premiere in Seattle in summer 2011.
